Workshop

A favored metaphor in the New Testament for Church is FAMILY, the “Household of Faith” (I Timothy 3:15). To frame church as family also defines the role and function of Leadership. The Apostle Paul describes leaders as “spiritual parents” (I Thessalonians 2:7-12). How does that definition of Leadership and its function translate today?

Let’s find out in the workshop, “Leaders in the Household of Faith.”

Session 1
GOD’S FAMILY: CULTURE

Before church leadership can be discussed we start with Christ’s definition of church. This shapes mission, determines faithfulness and declares leadership roles. Congregations utilize a church model to structure the equipping and mobilizing of members to fulfill God’s mission. The most common definition of church is God’s Family or God’s Household. God is called our Father in the NT. The term brother in the Net Testament occurs 367 times. Brothers 35 times and household of faith (I Timothy 3:15; Ephesians 2:19) and God’s family (Galatians 1:10; Ephesians 3:15; I Thessalonians 4:10; Hebrews 2:11; I Peter 2:17; 5-9). This session will explore:

B. God’s Family: PURPOSE

GOD’S FAMILY: THE ROLE OF LEADERS

God has given his household a gift: leadership (Ephesians 4:7-13). Leaders ensure God’s children seek to imitate and obey the Father. Obedience to the Father allows God’s Spirit to transform each believer into the Father’s image (John 14:9-11). This session will explore:

Since transformation of the member’s character is a purpose of Christ’s church, then the character of leaders is at the forefront. Leaders teach and model the ideal. The leader’s decision making, and function are expressions of the leader’s character (I Thessalonians 2:6-12). Ephesians 4 states that leadership is Christ’s gift to the church (Ephesians 4:7-12). This session will explore:

A. Character REGENERATED

B. Character SANCTIFIED

D. Character/Role of WOMEN

Session 4
GOD’S FAMILY: MENTORING LEADERS (PIPELINE)

It is crucial to have a leadership pipeline that produces new leaders who mentor others who duplicate their efforts. Leaders Mentor (II Timothy 2:2; Titus 2:3-5). This session will explore:

A. Mentoring: DESIGN

B. Mentoring: RECRUITS

C. Mentoring: CONNECTS

D. Mentoring: DESIGNS
E. Mentoring: MEASURE

Session 5
GOD’S FAMILY: STRUCTURE

Every healthy household is structured to care for and develop the children into quality men and women. It is no different with the household of faith. To develop character requires spiritual parenting/influence that teaches the correct patterns, provides a model to demonstrate what the pattern looks like, and mentoring, and accountability that are essential for change. What types of structures are useful in life transformation? How does an organizational, program driven church transition or incorporate to the household of faith model? This session explores:
