Only the innocent Jesus died voluntarily for the sins of the world. He said, “No one takes my life from me, but I lay it down of my own accord” (John 10:18). He went to the cross willingly, “to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matt. 20:28). Jesus’ death was not a martyr’s death but a vicarious death.

A poet put it well: We are building up or tearing down In everything we do; Do we belong to the construction gang, Or to the wrecking crew? In a world that tears people down, be part of God’s construction crew. Be an encouraging leader!

The most profound principle I've ever learned in the area of equipping and developing others is one I learned from John Maxwell. He taught me more about leadership than anyone else. Ready for the axiom? Never work alone.

There are few things that contribute more to the health, vitality, and effectiveness of a church than hiring the right person to do the right thing and fulfill the right role in the right way.
